Obituary for Evelyn Pearl Baker

Evelyn Pearl Baker, lifelong resident of Yanush, OK, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday afternoon, January 19, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 94. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Moore Funeral Service of Owasso, OK.

A Celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at 1PM Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Cupco Freewill Baptist Church in Yanush, OK. Michael Kennedy and Brent Rose will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to the love of her life, Marvin Baker, at Sardis Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Baker, Kyle Baker, Trevor Kirkes, Darin Kirkes, Chris Edwards, and David Kirkes. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Rose, Randy Leathers, Randy Rushing, Ricky Rushing, and Jerry Rushing.

Evelyn was born December 16, 1923 in Yanush, OK, to Clyde and Ethel (DeHart) Winton. She grew up in the Yanush/Buffalo Valley communities where she attended public school. She graduated from Buffalo Valley Schools in 1942. Five years later, she and Marvin Baker were married on November 8, 1947 in Hopkins County, TX. Evelyn and Marvin were born again Christians on January 15, 1981 at the Cupco Freewill Baptist Church. She was known as a great cook and specialized in fried chicken, fried fish, deer meat, chicken and dumplings, homemade biscuits, chocolate gravy, and the best grilled cheese you ever ate. She was famous for her homemade popcorn balls that she gave to the trick or treater's. Some time she would give 100 or more per year. The trick or treaters would say mom and dad want one too. Evelyn was a wonderful mom and grandma and a great Christian lady.

When Evelyn was about 70 years old, she rode the Texas Giant (the world’s largest wooden roller-coaster). In Canada she caught one of the largest Northern Pikes that measured at 36' long. She loved to fish. You could find her riding on the back of Angie's four-wheeler to the deer woods to help her put out deer feed. Evelyn didn't want Angie to be by herself. She loved to quilt with the ladies at the rock building and would make beautiful handmade quilts for the boys for Christmas presents.
